Résumé

Ce bulletin présente la géomorphologie du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg et accompagne la carte géomorphologique nationale au 1:100 000.

Le Luxembourg est divisé en deux grandes unités morphostructurales. Au nord, l’Ösling appartient à l’Ardenne et se caractérise par un plateau ancien fortement plissé, entaillé par des vallées profondes. Au sud, le Gutland correspond à la bordure du Bassin de Paris et présente un relief dominé par une succession de cuestas développées dans les terrains triasiques et jurassiques.

L’auteur montre que les principales formes du relief résultent de l’interaction entre la structure géologique, la résistance des roches et les phases d’érosion qui ont façonné une vaste surface d’aplanissement commune aux deux régions.

La notice décrit également la dépression périphérique qui marque le contact entre l’Ösling et le Gutland, ainsi que l’organisation du réseau hydrographique et l’évolution des vallées.

Enfin, l’ouvrage explique les principes retenus pour la réalisation de la carte géomorphologique : sélection des formes les plus significatives, représentation des contrastes entre plateaux et vallées, et utilisation de couleurs et de symboles destinés à faciliter la lecture et la compréhension du relief luxembourgeois.

Dieses Bulletin beschreibt die Geomorphologie des Großherzogtums Luxemburg und dient als Begleittext zur geomorphologischen Karte des Landes im Maßstab 1:100.000.

Luxemburg gliedert sich in zwei große morphostrukturelle Einheiten. Im Norden liegt das Ösling, das zur Ardennenregion gehört und durch ein altes, stark gefaltetes Plateau mit tief eingeschnittenen Tälern gekennzeichnet ist. Im Süden befindet sich das Gutland, das zum Randbereich des Pariser Beckens gehört und von einer Abfolge von Schichtstufenlandschaften (Cuestas) in triassischen und jurassischen Gesteinen geprägt wird.

Die Autorin zeigt, dass die wichtigsten Reliefformen aus dem Zusammenspiel von geologischer Struktur, unterschiedlicher Gesteinsresistenz und mehreren Erosionsphasen hervorgegangen sind, die eine ausgedehnte Verebnungsfläche formten, welche beiden Regionen gemeinsam ist. [BulletinSGL_13 | PDF]

Darüber hinaus beschreibt die Studie die Randsenke zwischen Ösling und Gutland sowie die Entwicklung des Flussnetzes und der Täler.

Abschließend erläutert die Publikation die Grundsätze der geomorphologischen Kartierung, insbesondere die Auswahl der wichtigsten Reliefformen, die Darstellung der Gegensätze zwischen Hochflächen und Tälern sowie die Verwendung von Farben und Symbolen zur besseren Lesbarkeit und Interpretation der Luxemburger Landschaft.

Abstract

This bulletin presents the geomorphology of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and serves as a companion guide to the country's geomorphological map at a scale of 1:100,000.

Luxembourg is divided into two major morphostructural units. In the north, the Oesling forms part of the Ardennes and is characterized by an ancient, strongly folded plateau dissected by deep valleys. In the south, the Gutland belongs to the northeastern margin of the Paris Basin and is distinguished by a succession of cuesta landscapes developed in Triassic and Jurassic rocks.

The author demonstrates that the principal landforms result from the interaction of geological structure, contrasts in rock resistance, and successive phases of erosion that shaped a widespread erosion surface shared by both regions.

The study also describes the peripheral depression that marks the transition between the Oesling and the Gutland, as well as the organization and evolution of the drainage network and river valleys.

Finally, the publication explains the principles used in producing the geomorphological map, including the selection of the most significant landforms, the representation of contrasts between plateaus and valleys, and the use of colors and symbols to improve the readability and interpretation of Luxembourg’s landscape.
